Teach. Train. Empower.
As Helping to Heal Haiti embarks on its journey of building a “village”, we are moving forward with plans to achieve our goal. Bruce and Shelly returned from Haiti in mid-October with great news; they have secured a house for the foundation to rent for 2011 in the neighborhood of Chabane in Petit Goave.
The location is ideal as they have already established ties to families and churches in the area. The house was constructed prior to the January earthquake and it didn’t receive any damage, although 90% of the houses and buildings in the area were destroyed. This is due to the high construction standard to which it was built.
Finishing touches are still needed to complete the house. Screens on the windows, tile on the floors and the final coats of paint on the walls. The house will have running water, a luxury in Haiti, and will be able to sleep 8-10 people comfortably. A large porch graces the front of the house which will allow team members to sit outside in the evening and interact with the people from the village. The house will be complete prior to the teams return in January, 2011. Click to learn how to donate to the "Rental House Fund".
After many meetings and discussions with local pastors and government officials in Petit Goave, Bruce and Shelly were able to have 15 acres of land donated for the foundation to build the “village”. This is wonderful news!
The land is in an area that is in need of all that the “village” will be offering; a school, a clinic, a church and Haitian housing just to name a few. (Click here to view the village project plans) The land is easily accessed from the main road and is almost completely flat. This will save in the costs of preparing the land for building. The land is graced with mango, coconut and banana trees as well as a creek that runs along the western property line. This accomplishment now allows Helping to Heal Haiti to proceed with raising funds, requesting prayers and finding manpower to make this incredible dream a reality. With the Grace of God, unwavering faith and steadfast determination we will fill the lives of these impoverished people with hope and possibility.
